Who this is for, and why it matters
This course is mandatory in Western Australia for anyone involved in selecting, implementing and setting up Traffic Guidance Schemes (TGSs) on public roads. If you place signs and traffic control devices as part of your work, this training is a legal and safety requirement. It complies with Main Roads WA standards and covers content from the Austroads Guide to Temporary Traffic Management and AS1742.3-2019. Suited to construction, civil works, utilities and maintenance workers.
What you walk away with
Successful participants receive:
- Statements of Attainment for RIIWHS302E (Implement traffic management plans) and RIICOM201E (Communicate in the workplace)
- A Main Roads WA BWTM Certificate
- A MRWA Photo ID Permit, valid for 3 years
Certificates and photo permits are generally issued within 3 working days for Perth metro participants.
What you will learn

Before you enrol (pre-requisites)
- Hold a current White Card (or valid Blue Card)
- Bring valid photo identification (passport or driver's licence)
- Provide your Unique Student Identifier (USI), apply free at usi.gov.au
- Complete a course suitability checklist, including LLND as applicable
Physical requirements
You must be physically able to move quickly away from approaching vehicles, carry and position traffic signs weighing 5-10kg, and help set up and pack down worksites.
What to bring and dress code
Safety footwear, long-sleeved shirt (hi-vis vest provided if needed), long pants, manual handling gloves, sun protection, and wet weather gear if required.

Tea, coffee and filtered water throughout the day, biscuits and Cup-a-Soup, and morning tea. Tell us about any dietary requirements when you book.
CTF subsidy
Eligible construction-industry workers can claim a CTF subsidy, which we apply up front at registration. For BWTM the Perth rate means you pay $135 instead of $450.
